Armadillo Christmas Bazaar: An Austin tradition 43 years strong

Austin's Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is now in its 43rd year running, and features more than 175 contemporary touring artists and some treasured local favorites.

AUSTIN — If you're still needing to get that holiday shopping done, the Palmer Events Center has you covered all the way through Christmas Eve as the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar makes it return.

The event is now in its 43rd year running, and features more than 175 contemporary touring artists and some treasured local favorites. Shoppers will have plenty of opportunities to walk across the rows of vendors selling everything from woodwork, wall art, paintings, canvas pieces and antiques.

Need to take a break from shopping? With 37 bands invited to take a stage in the middle of the center, you can also enjoy the live music provided daily as well as the food and drink vendors.

Nicole Shiro, a spokesperson for the annual event, said that she's met with people who have traveled out of state, including her own family, just to shop at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. She said families have made it a tradition ever since their children were "Armadillo babies."

"When you purchase something you can get a little tag that says, 'Purchased at the Armadillo,' and people -- my family all over the United States -- get excited to see the little Armadillo tag and know where their gift came from," Shiro said.

The Austin tradition kicks off at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. It will be open daily through Christmas Eve, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Tickets are $10 per single entry and children 12 and under are free.
