AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin police officer was taken to the hospital with "fairly minor injuries" after they crashed into a highway bridge column.
Police said the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of FM 973 and State Highway 71 in southeast Austin. The officer was on their way to a call when the crash happened, and they weren't using the patrol car's lights or sirens.
Austin-Travis County EMS said the officer was transported to South Austin Medical Center with serious injuries but they're not expected to be life-threatening.
