An Austin police officer was hit by a car while directing traffic for ACL Festival, according to police.

AUSTIN — An Austin police officer was hit by a vehicle in Southwest Austin Sunday night while he was directing traffic for the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Authorities said the collision happened just before 9 p.m. near the MoPac Expressway and Bee Cave Road. Police said the driver went around a barrel and hit the officer, who was working on overtime ACL assignment and was attempting to stop them from entering a blocked off portion of the roadway. The blocked off portion was intended for buses and taxi cabs to take the far left lane to make a U-turn under the overpass.

The officer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be OK. By Monday, officials said he was recuperating at home.

Officials said the driver who hit the officer stayed at the scene. Officers said the driver was tested at the scene and did not appear to be intoxicated. Police said Monday the driver was not currently facing any charges.
