Big money changes are coming to East Austin

The East Austin Hotel and Resideo Technologies are coming to what used to be a primarily residential community that's quickly changing.

AUSTIN — Big money changes are coming to East Austin -- a billion dollar tech company and now a new boutique hotel.

Resideo Technologies and the East Austin Hotel are just blocks away from each other.

The corner of 6th and Waller is not quite what it will be, but it’s definitely not what it used to be.

“It was dirt before," Jeff Trigger, a managing partner with the East Austin Hotel and president of the La Corsha Hospitality Group, said. "It was a food trailer park here,”

That dirt is now being used for a bigger purpose: as the foundation for a new four-story boutique hotel, the East Austin Hotel.

Trigger said there’s a lot that comes with the new hotel.

"A swimming pool, three different styles of rooms for all budgets and needs, three bars and restaurants in those three locations as well," Trigger said.

It will have 75 rooms and a parking garage.

La Corsha Hospitality Group is also behind a couple Austin restaurants: Second Bar + Kitchen and Boiler Nine Bar + Grill.

Just down the street from the new hotel, a billion dollar tech company is also making East Austin its new home. Resideo Technologies, a spinoff of Honeywell, announced its arrival last week.

Both projects are coming to what used to be a primarily residential community that’s quickly changing.

So, what’s the attraction?

“Lady Bird Lake a few blocks south, the university very close,” Trigger said.

The hotel is set to open January 2019 and the tech company shortly after, adding to the ongoing transformation of the east Austin community.
