TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas -- A man who said he was with the shooter the night he tried to kill Travis County Judge Julie Kocurek took the witness stand Tuesday.
Co-defendant Rasul Scott testified April 17 in the trial for Chimene Onyeri, the man accused of attempting to assassinate Kocurek in 2015, according to KVUE's news partners at the Austin American-Statesman.

Scott said on the stand that Onyeri wanted to go to Austin to "to kill a judge," the Statesman said. Scott said that they sat in a parked car in Tarrytown on Nov. 6, 2015 before Onyeri walked to the judge's home to kill her. Onyeri later returned and said, "I couldn't get her," according to Scott's testimony.
Scott pleaded guilty to conspiracy to conduct or participate in a racketeering scheme, facing a life sentence. But with his testimony against Onyeri, the government will recommend a sentence of no more than 20 years.
Onyeri's trial could last a few more weeks.
