Crews extinguish fire that burned for hours at metal recycling plant in northeast Austin

The fire was extinguished just before 3 a.m. Thursday morning, according to Travis County officials.

AUSTIN, Texas — Fire crews responded to a "significant" trash fire at a metal recycling plant in northeast Austin on Wednesday.

According to the Travis County active incident list, the fire occurred near the 10200 block of Decker Lane, near Harris Branch Parkway and Lindell Lane south of U.S. 290. The fire was reported around 2:16 p.m.

Eventually, crews left the scene as the fire was extinguished sometime before 3 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters with Travis County ESD No. 2 and No. 12 responded to the scene. Austin-Travis County EMS was also on the scene as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

A large plume of black smoke could be seen rising from the fire. as it burned at the Austin Metal & Iron Co. and near several other industrial complexes, including other metal companies, recycling centers and a solar energy equipment supplier.

Austin Energy said the fire was not near the property or affecting operations at Decker Creek Power Plant.
