BURNET COUNTY, Texas — Search crews discovered a body Thursday morning in their search for a missing boater on Lake Travis in Burnet County.
At approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Texas Game Wardens were notified of a missing person near the Grelle Recreation Area near Spicewood on Lake Travis.
Wednesday night, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) told KVUE that the vessel was located on the shoreline and side-scan sonar was being utilized to locate the missing person, along with a TPWD K9 and an unmanned aircraft system.
The LCRA said the search was called off for the night and began again at daybreak Thursday. At 10:30 a.m., the body was located and recovered from the lake using side-scan sonar. The body was recovered in around 15 feet of water in close proximity to where his Jon boat was found on Wednesday near the Grelle Recreation area.
The body has been identified as 53-year-old Tommy Eady of Buda. Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy has been ordered by the Burnet County Justice of the Peace.
The search was being conducted by Texas Game Wardens, the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) Lake Rangers and the Burnet and Travis County sheriff's offices.
Eady worked at the Austin Oaks Hospital in South Austin. Their CEO, Steve Kelly, provided KVUE with the following statement:
"When we heard the news about our dear colleague, we were deeply saddened. He worked here for about 1.5 years and was beloved by our staff and our patients. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time."
This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
