People who don't pay late fees for tolls are about to get a big break.
Starting March 1, there's going to be a cap on how much they can charge you on certain toll lanes.
While the fee to use the toll will remain the same, the cost of the late fee is getting capped at $4 a month or $48 a year.
The change applies to Loop 1, Texas 130, Texas 45 North, and Texas 45 Southwest.
It does not apply to tollways operated by the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority which are: Highway 183-A, Highway 290 East, North Mopac Boulevard, and Texas 71.
Thanks to the Legislature, the late fee bills due from now on will be lower.
Before this, each unpaid tolls has triggered fees and fines for 25 dollars - or more - for each ignored toll.
In the last decade, more than 2 million drivers have used Texas toll roads and then not paid.
