AUSTIN — Effective Sept. 20, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department has lifted burn restrictions put in place on July 30.
The department credited recent rainfall and ground conditions upon lifting the ban. It will continue to monitor conditions and will advise the public if circumstances change.
Amid dry conditions and 100-degree-weather, Austin Parks and Recreation had previously issued the burn ban for all city parks.

That meant that building fires and grilling at parks, greenbelts and preserves across the city was prohibited. Park goers were, however, allowed to use propane stoves to cook in picnic areas only.
Anyone caught breaking those rules was subject to a fine between $300 and $500.
