Arrest made in South Austin apartment shooting death

Austin police said they are offering up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in the case.

AUSTIN — UPDATE: Police said they have made an arrest in this murder after a suspect allegedly went on a shooting spree in South Austin. Go here for the story.

ORIGINAL STORY: Austin police have identified the man who died from a gunshot wound at a South Austin apartment complex Monday afternoon.

According to police, officers were called to the apartment complex called "Post South Lamar" located at 1500 South Lamar Blvd. at around 1:43 p.m. When officers arrived, they found 32-year-old Christian Meroney in the apartment complex with obvious signs of trauma. Emergency responders joined witnesses who were attempting to treat Meroney, but he died at 1:56 p.m.

Police are investigating his death as a murder.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area in the later morning or afternoon hours of July 9 should contact Austin police's tip line at 512-477-3588.

Austin police said they are offering up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in the case.

For local business owners, the news came as a shock. Joe Ables, the owner of Saxon Pub, says he would never have thought this would happen at the Post.

"It's a very nice place man, it's a great place to live everyone here is amazed that anything like that could happen at the post," said Ables. "We don't have any trouble here and it's like a freak thing and I hope they can find out who did it."
