Third suspect arrested in connection to man’s body found at San Marcos complex

Two brothers, identified as Jacob Portier, 27, and Jason Portier, 26, were also arrested on Aug. 16 in connection to the murder.

SAN MARCOS, Texas — A third suspect has been arrested after a man's body was found in the parking lot of a San Marcos apartment complex early Aug. 14, according to the city.

Adrian Rose, 24, was arrested in connection to the death of Matthew Jacob Rodriguez Jr., the city said. Two brothers, identified as Jacob Portier, 27, and Jason Portier, 26, were also arrested on Aug. 16 in connection to the murder.

The city announced Wednesday that Rose was arrested Monday in Mississippi and that he is waiting to be extradited to Hays County.

Police said they found Rodriguez fatally shot at the Park North Condos parking lot in the 1600 block of Aquarena Springs Drive at 2:24 a.m. According to police, Rodriguez suffered from several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said all three suspects face capital murder charges. Jason and Jacob have bonds set at $75,000, according to the city.

"[It's] very unusual," said Keith Baker, who lives in the condo complex. "I've always felt safe for the most part.

What is considered by most to be a safe community is now home to the city's first murder investigation of the year.

“At this point, it is a clear homicide," said San Marcos Police Chief Chase Stapp. "The big question in our minds is who did it.”

Rodriguez's body has been taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.

Police said Rodriguez didn't live at the complex. A woman told KVUE she heard four gunshots and a car alarm go off.

“Homicides are not a common occurrence in San Marcos we’re very thankful for that San Marcos is a safe community," said Chief Stapp.

Stapp said this is San Marcos' first homicide of the year and added that the city averages zero to two homicides per year. There were five homicides in San Marcos in 2017.

Police believe this was an isolated incident.
