Police searching for man previously barricaded inside East Austin home

Police are now searching for a man who prompted a SWAT call in East Austin. They believe he left through the back of the home during the call.
An officer responding to a disturbance in East Austin repeats, "This is the Austin Police Department. The house is surrounded."

After Austin police officers and SWAT responded to East Austin due to reports that a man possibly with a gun had barricaded himself inside a home, police told KVUE that the suspect is now not in the house and that they are looking for him.

Police said they believe the man is Hispanic and in his 30s. They believe he went through the back of the house during the SWAT call. The surrounding area is not in danger, police believe.

At 8:17 a.m., police said a woman reported the domestic dispute between her and a man she has a "dating relationship" with at a residence in the 6900 block of Villita Avenida Street near Montopolis Drive and Riverside Drive. The woman told police that it was possible that the man had a weapon, but added that she was safe. The woman was taken to a hospital, but police could not specify the seriousness of her injuries.

Police said when they arrived on the scene, they saw the suspect run back into the home. Police called a SWAT team in after the man allegedly refused to leave and because there is a possibility he is armed.

Austin police said the area is now clear.
