Texas is #23 in the nation in the preseason Associated Press college football rankings.
Sound familiar?
Texas opened 2017 as the #23 ranked team. The Longhorns lost the opener to Maryland and never saw the top 25 again.
Here's a look at how other teams stand in the rankings:
- Alabama is the number one team in the nation, followed by Clemson and Georgia.
- Wisconsin and Ohio State round out the top five.
- Washington is 6th with Oklahoma the top team in the Big 12 at #7.
- Miami, Auburn and Penn State finish off the top ten.
- Michigan State, Notre Dame, Stanford and Michigan are 11-14.
- Texas plays the next three teams on its 2018 schedule with USC at #15, TCU #16 and West Virginia #17.
- Mississippi State, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Central Florida and Boise State are #18-22.
- Texas is at #23.
- Oregon and LSU are #24 and #25 with several teams (Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Houston in that mix) receiving votes.
Alabama is preseason #1 for the third year in a row. The only other team to do that since the AP poll started in 1950 was Oklahoma from 1985 to 1987.
