Growth in Marble Falls resulting in more housing, more students

Two new housing developments are under construction in Marble Falls with a third slated to begin later this year.

MARBLE FALLS, Texas — Marble Falls, a Hill Country community about 60 miles northwest of Austin and the gateway to the Highland Lakes, is turning into quite a boomtown.

Two new housing developments are under construction in Marble Falls with a third slated to begin later this year. Gregg Ranch, Thunder Rock and Roper Ranch will add another 3,700 homes to the area where Highway 281 meets Highway 71, close to the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.

And with the new developments coming to the city, the school system is preparing for an increase in students.

Currently, Marble Falls ISD has 4,300 students. But you only need to look at some of the neighboring cities like Lake Travis and Liberty Hill to see how quickly things can change.

Liberty Hill added 1,400 students last year, and Lake Travis has added 2,500 students in the last five years.

Marble Falls voters approved a bond package several years ago to make improvements to the existing schools and seek a location for a future elementary school, which many expect will be needed in the next few years.
