AUSTIN, Texas — Over the weekend, many Central Texans chose to do some last-minute holiday shopping in-person.
The Cathedral in East Austin hosted its third annual Holiday Market on Sunday.
People could buy art from more than 30 female artists who create works inside the refurbished former church-turned-art gallery and coworking space.
The event featured more than 100 gifts under $100 across different mediums like watercolor, acrylic and collage.
“Art’s meant for everybody,” said Mónica Ceniceros, founder and CEO of The Cathedral. “So, we really strive to provide different price points so that art is affordable and approachable for anyone that comes in this space.”
Ceniceros said buying local helps Austin’s economy.
“Not only are you able to experience art in a unique and welcoming setting, but you're also able to support local artists that show their work through this space,” said Ceniceros. “Just being able to shop in person, I think, is something is special, especially around the holidays.”
She added, “In particularly with fine art, I feel like it's something that you have to touch and feel and kind of learn more about the artists and learn about the stories and really connect with the art.”
The Cathedral will host its New Years event on the last Friday of January.
