Coronavirus updates in Central Texas: APH asks users to update accounts if they no longer need a vaccine

Here are the latest COVID-19 updates, closures and postponements in Central Texas for Wednesday, March 31.

COVID-19 numbers:

  • Texas: More than 2.3 million cases have been reported in the state, and more than 47,200 people in Texas have died, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Central Texas counties: 
    • Travis County: At least 79,217 cases have been reported and at least 817 people have died. At least 77,387 people have recovered from the virus.
    • Hays County: At least 17,150 confirmed cases have been reported and at least 236 people have died. At least 16,547 people have recovered from the virus.
    • Williamson County: At least 37,163 cases have been reported in the county and at least 449 people have died.

Updates: 

6:05 p.m. – Travis County reported another death from COVID-19 on Wednesday along with 132 new confirmed cases, bringing the total to 79,217 cases and 817 deaths since the start of the pandemic. At least 77,387 people have recovered from the virus.

Travis County currently has 146 people hospitalized with COVID-19, with 52 in the ICU and 31 on ventilators.

5:45 p.m. – Austin Public Health is asking those who pre-registered on its vaccination site and have received a first and/or second dose through a different provider to update their information in the system:

  1. Log in at covid19.austintexas.gov with the  information (email, password) you used to create your account
  2. Under “My Vaccinations,” click the link that says “I already received my 1st and/or 2nd vaccine dose from another provider”
  3. You will then be directed to complete a form titled “Non-Austin Public Health vaccine provider form” 

APH said the steps will help it have a better understanding of who in its system still is in need of vaccination.

5 p.m. – Here's a look at local vaccine data:

  • Around 33% of eligible Texans have now had at least one dose.
    • Almost 4 million are fully vaccinated.
  • Caldwell County is lagging in vaccination rates at 23.4%.
  • Rural western counties continue to lead the way, closing in on 40%. The metro core is right around the state average of 33%.
  • Travis County has surged ahead of the state average in doses allocated per 1,000, 16+ population. Gillespie County now has had more doses allocated than 16+ residents with 1,076 doses per 1,000.

4 p.m. – Hays County reported 25 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday along with three new hospitalizations. There are 26 additional people considered recovered.
