Assault lawsuit adds to list of allegations against Llano police department

The Llano Police Department continues to operate after half of its police force was indicted on misconduct charges.

LLANO, Texas — As the Llano Police Department continues to work after several staff members were indicted on misconduct allegations, another lawsuit has been filed against former officers Matthew Grant Harden and Melissa Sloan.

According to the lawsuit obtained by KVUE, plaintiff Cody Perry claims he was assaulted at his home by Harden and later tazed by Sloan after being placed in handcuffs. Perry was charged with assault of a peace officer, a charge later dismissed by the Llano County District Attorney's Office.

The lawsuit claims Perry was wrongfully charged and the officers used excessive force during the Nov. 6, 2016, arrest.

The lawsuit comes after a number of misconduct indictments hit half of the LPD's police force, according to our news partners at the Austin American-Statesman. That included the Llano police chief and three officers -- Chief Kevin Ratliff, Officer Aimee Shannon, Officer Grant Harden and Officer Jared Latta.

On Sept. 11, 2018, a City of Llano representative said the City had not been officially served with the lawsuit involving Perry but had received a copy of it. According to policy, the City could not comment regarding the specifics of ongoing litigation involving the City.

Although shorthanded, the spokesman said the police department continues to operate "very well." The City of Llano has a Mutual Aid Agreement with the sheriff's office, which has been assisting when needed.
