AUSTIN, Texas — Some southeast Austin residents are under a boil water notice after wastewater overflowed from a sewer manhole on Tuesday.
According to Austin Water, more than 100,000 gallons of wastewater spilled from the manhole by the 5000 block of Creek Bend Dr. before spreading into a dry portion of Williamson Creek. The incident happened just before noon on Tuesday, and crews said they were able to stop the spill around 1:45 p.m.
Austin Water said the spill started after debris built up in the line, but it has since been removed.
The city's water supply is not impacted by the overflow, but anyone using private drinking water within .5 miles of the incident should boil their water for one minute or more before use.
Private well owners should also test their water before using it for cooking, drinking, etc.
Anyone who bought water from another supplier can reach out to the distributor to ask whether it is safe for consumption or use of any kind.
It's also recommended to stay away from any water, soil or waste in the area that could be impacted by the spill.
