Man arrested after getting arm stuck in Austin vending machine

Police were called to the apartment complex after security reported the incident in the laundry room.

AUSTIN — Police arrested a man Friday after they say he got his arm caught in a vending machine and attempted to walk away with beverages he did not pay for.

According to court documents, police responded to the English Aire Apartments on Burton Drive at 11:46 a.m. after security reported there was a man whose arm was stuck in the vending machine in the complex's laundry room. Upon arrival, police identified the man as Joseph Okonofue, 32.

Police said the man's arm was stuck inside the section of the machine in which drinks are dispensed. They observed two bottled beverages visible in the same section. Once firefighters arrived and helped remove the suspect's arm, police said the machine yielded two move beverages as he was freed.

The documents state Okonofue then took the two drinks and walked out of the laundry room. Police then arrested the suspect for burglary of a coin-operated machine, a misdemeanor.
