One week after Rep. Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio) announced he would not seek re-election to represent the 21st Congressional District of Texas, State Rep. Jason Isaac announced Thursday his candidacy for the district.
Isaac currently serves House District 45 in the Texas State Capitol.
Smith's announcement came after 30 years of working in government.
“During my four terms in the Texas Legislature, I’ve had the honor and privilege of participating firsthand in helping make Texas the freest state in the nation — and it’s time to take those values and experience to Washington,” said Rep. Isaac Thursday in a statement. “A new administration promises new hope for constraining the growth of the federal government, but it can’t be done without principled conservative leadership in Congress.”
