AUSTIN, Texas — Former Texas Longhorns defensive tackle Byron Murphy is now a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
The reigning Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year was taken by the Seahawks 16th overall Thursday night in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
After three standout seasons on the Forty Acres, the DeSoto, Texas, native was widely seen as the top defensive tackle prospect in the draft.
In three seasons with Texas, Murphy registered 68 tackles with eight sacks, breaking through in his junior season as a focal point of a Longhorns defense that ranked as the Big 12's top unit in 2023.
Murphy will now head to a Seattle team that is in the midst of a retooling under new head coach Mike Macdonald. He will be a key focus in rebuilding the team's defensive line.
