AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Softball has earned the program's first No. 1 ranking since April 2006.
The Longhorns overtook bitter rivals Oklahoma to snag the No. 1 spot on the ESPN/USA Today poll following Oklahoma's loss to Louisiana on Sunday – the Sooners' first loss since February 19, 2023, according to D1Softball.
KVUE's media partners at the Austin American-Statesman report that Oklahoma's record 71-game winning streak included the past three national titles.
The Statesman also reports that Texas had a 5-0 showing this week that moved their record to 17-1 overall.
This past weekend, Texas hosted the Longhorn Invitational. The team beat Hofstra 13-0 on Sunday and outscored its first four opponents in the event 40-2, according to the Statesman.
The tournament concludes Tuesday, March 5, with a 5 p.m. game against Penn State.
