Austin police give more than 100 warnings during latest 'Move Over' law operation

The Move Over Law has been in effect for more than15 years, but that hasn't stop violaters.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department released the latest results on their "Move Over" operation that began last week and revealed they issued more than 100 citations.

The "Move Over" Law requires drivers to either move over a lane or slow their speed down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit if they pass an emergency vehicle with its lights flashing. These vehicles include fire trucks, the ambulance, police vehicles, and as of 2013, tow trucks.

The Move Over Law has been in effect for more than15 years, but that hasn't stop violaters.

APD said officers issued a total of 137 warnings, a speeding ticket and seven other tickets for unrelated violations during their latest operation on Aug. 28. On June 10 alone, there were 238 warning citations given out to those who passed authorized emergency vehicles without slowing down.
