Caldwell County tornado rated an EF-0

The tornado was on the ground for roughly one minute before lifting again.

LOCKHART, Texas — We now have word on how the confirmed tornado in northern Caldwell County was rated.

The National Weather Service in New Braunfels rated the tornado as an EF-0, the lowest rating a tornado can receive. This is due to its estimated peak winds of 65 mph, as well as its rather short path length of nearly a half mile and width of roughly 10 yards. This storm was one of three tornado-warned storms in Central Texas Thursday morning.

The tornado started near Rolling Ridge Road and the Two Wishes Polo Club before making its way to the intersection of Rolling Ridge Road and Schuelke Road. As it reached the intersection, the small tornado hit what an old schoolhouse that was being converted into a regular residential home. No one was home at the time of the tornado, and there were no injuries reported from this storm.

The small tornado was on the ground for roughly a minute, and the timing of the brief touchdown was estimated based on radar data.

It's important to note that this is only a preliminary report, and that this data is subject to change, pending a final review of the tornado and publication into the National Weather Service's Storm Data.
