KVUE is excited to announce that Erika Lopez is our new morning meteorologist for Daybreak.

Lopez comes to KVUE from Weather Nation TV, a national 24-hour weather network based out of Denver, Colorado.

Lopez started her broadcasting career in Victoria, Texas at the ABC affiliate, KAVU, where she worked weekends before taking a job at Weather Nation.

Lopez attended Arizona State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in meteorology. Currently, she is working towards a master’s degree in applied meteorology through Mississippi State University’s online program.

Lopez is “the ultimate weather nerd” and has been interested in meteorology since she was a kid growing up in Phoenix, Arizona.

She has experience covering everything from severe weather to hurricanes, floods and blizzards, and she looks forward to the dynamic weather of Central Texas.

KVUE News Director Mike Redding said, “We spent a long time looking for Erika. We needed a meteorologist who is accurate with forecasts but also strong with the kind of severe weather we see in Texas. Erika wakes up with a smile on her face and looks forward to helping our viewers get ready for their day!”

“We found a great meteorologist with a bright personality and strong work ethic who wants to make Austin her home for many years to come," KVUE Chief Meteorologist Albert Ramon added.

Lopez’s first day on air will be Tuesday, Feb. 28. You can find her on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
