KVUE names broadcast veteran Tim Ryan as news director

KVUE is excited to welcome Tim Ryan to its leadership team as News Director.

Ryan joins KVUE from KUSA 9News in Denver, Colorado where he has held the title of Assistant News Director since 2000.

Ryan is a transformative leader who has spearheaded new news formats and digital growth for one of the strongest NBC affiliates in the country. He reported on or managed the coverage of stories like Pope John Paul II’s visit to Colorado in 1993, the Columbine High School tragedy in 1999, the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games in 2002, the Denver Democratic National Convention in 2008, and the Aurora theater tragedy in 2012.

"Tim has been on the forefront of innovation and excellence at KUSA in Denver," says President and General Manager Kristie Gonzales. "We’re happy to have his immense skill set in the building to continue the ratings and digital momentum at KVUE."

His work at 9News has resulted in many accolades including being named the Colorado Broadcasters Association Station of the Year for 18 consecutive years (1999-2016), as well as numerous national awards.

Ryan has held various TV newsroom positions including reporter, photographer, producer, anchor and assignment editor at KAKE-TV in Wichita and KFSM-TV in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He is a 1985 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism and earned a master’s degree in history from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1997. His master’s thesis described the history of 9NEWS from its establishment in 1952.

He’s also active in many community efforts including Special Olympics and the Boy Scouts of America.
