AUSTIN, Texas — Joe Ellis is KVUE’s executive producer of investigations and news projects and oversees the KVUE Defenders investigative unit. He joined the KVUE team in June of 2017.
During his 23-year career as an investigative broadcast journalist, Joe has also worked at KXAN in Austin, KDFW in Dallas-Fort Worth, WOAI in San Antonio, The Texas Network and KTBC in Austin. He focuses primarily on state and local government, courts and the law, public safety, consumer affairs and environmental issues.
Joe’s work over the years has earned numerous regional and national honors, including the 2017 duPont Columbia Award, a 2016 IRE Award, a 2017 Walter Cronkite Award, six Edward R. Murrow Awards, 16 Emmy Awards, three Headliners Foundation of Texas Awards and numerous Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Awards. Joe's work has also triggered many changes in law and government policy and resulted in dozens of criminal convictions.
Along with his work at KVUE, Joe serves on the board of directors of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas and the Texas Association of Broadcasters’ legislative committee. He is also a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors and regularly speaks on panels at the organization’s national conferences.
As a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Joe is a lifetime Texas Longhorn who bleeds burnt orange! Hook ‘Em Horns!
