AUSTIN, Texas — A billboard has popped up on northbound Interstate Highway 35 between Slaughter and Onion Creek that honors the late Austin artist and musician Daniel Johnston.
The billboard reads "True Love will Find You In the End," the title of one of Johnston's songs, and features the eyes of Johnston's iconic "Hi, How Are You," artwork.
Johnston passed away at his home in Waller, Texas, on Sept. 11 after a suspected heart attack.
The Keep Austin Weird Twitter account posted a picture of the billboard on Wednesday.

Johnston was raised in West Virginia but became an Austinite in the early 1980s when he moved to the city after dropping out of Kent State University's art program.
For much of his adult life, Johnston struggled with mental illness and was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1988.
The nonprofit Hi, How Are You Project was created by Johnston and his family, and focuses on having conversations about mental health.
Johnston was truly loved by the city and community, and in 2018 Austin declared Jan. 22 "Hi, How Are You Day" in his honor.
His death was felt throughout the Austin community.
"Not only was Daniel Johnston a legendary musician and artist who so authentically embodied Austin's soul and spirit," tweeted Austin Mayor Steve Adler, "he also inspired many in our community to fight stigma associated with #mentalhealth issues. #Austin will miss you..."
