Austin holds 'Bat Fest' downtown music festival

AUSTIN, Texas — It's an Austin tradition like no other, and it's back and better than ever.

The 2018 Bat Fest on the Congress Avenue Bridge had a little something for everyone. There was a costume contest, food, and games.

Plus, it wouldn't quite be Austin if there wasn't live music. Artists such as Chingy and Ghostland Observatory took to the stage.

One family who drove down from Forth Worth didn't even know there was going to be the artists, but that was a pleasant surprise.

"The concert was an extra, I didn't know till I saw the itinerary the schedule, 'hey there’s going to be bands' one of the ones I used to listen to," said Arnulfo Salas.

It's also a welcome sight for people who have lived in Austin for around 10 years.

"I’m excited I’ve never seen Congress shut down and I’ve never seen so many vendors like that I’ve never seen the bands lined up like they are really excited to be here," said Kim McKinley.

The festival was held from 4 p.m. to midnight.
