Texas Independence Day – which commemorates the date back in 1836 when delegates gathered at Washington-on-the-Brazos to sign the state's Declaration of Independence – is this Saturday, March 2. To celebrate, several Austin establishments are throwing parties in the name of the Lone Star State.
Hotel Vegas is hosting an all-day event from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. DJ Boi Orbison will keep the party going for the first few hours, then Amplified Heat will play a tribute set to iconic Texas band ZZ Top. Thrift vendors will also be on-site.
Meanwhile, Independence Brewing Company will host "Boots & Brews" from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The fun includes a lasso station, a western fashion show – complete with esteemed judges – and music, including tunes from DJ Gross Y'all and live performances from Armadillo Road and Mayeux & Broussard.
East Austin honky-tonk White Horse will also host a Texas Independence Day celebration starting at 4 p.m. The event will feature live performances by Me Nd Adam, Shad Blar, Dancin' Austin, Cory Cross, JD Clark and Bob Appel. Attendees can also get free Texas tattoos from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Outside of Austin, the 11th Annual Texas Independence Jam will be held through Sunday at Rising Sun Vineyard in McCade, Texas. Band will be performing all weekend, and the event is free!
