How to celebrate Texas Independence Day in Austin this weekend

Here's what you can do in the Austin area to celebrate the lone star state's independence.

AUSTIN, Texas — Yee, and I cannot emphasize this enough, haw. 

Gather all that state pride, Texans! It's your day to celebrate. 

Texas Independence Day is Saturday. It's a day to celebrate the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence, which took place on March 2, 183 years ago. 

Texas Independence Day Parade

If you like to celebrate while getting fit, join the Texas Independence Day Parade, taking place from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Congress Saturday.

Celebrate at The Driskill

Enjoy the iconic landmark for Texan hospitality and go to The Driskill for Texas-shaped waffles, whiskey tastings, live music and a Texas trivia night hosted by the Texas Tribune. 

Rotunda Celebration

From noon to 1 p.m., go to the Texas Capitol for a celebration Texas cultures, and a special posting of the colors by the Buffalo Soldiers. 

Alamo Defender Ceremony

If you're a history buff, head to the gazebo on the Texas State Capital grounds on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Take a walk down memory lane and read the names of the Alamo defenders, their widows and musket volley.

Annual Texas Independence Day Shootout Golf Tournament

Grab your putts and come to the Falconhead Golf Club for a Texas-spirited game of golf Monday! Shotgun starts at 1 p.m. and dinner is served at the conclusion.

Texas Exes Celebration at The Brass Tap

UT's alumni associate, the Texas Exes, will bring everyone's favorite longhorn, Bevo XV, to the Brass Tap Domain Sunday for beer, tacos and live music. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $25.
