AUSTIN, Texas — It's almost time for college football, and Central Texans are preparing for another year of cheering on the Texas Longhorns.
Ahead of the first home game of the season, Still Austin Whiskey Co. will host a free Longhorn City Limits concert on Saturday, Aug. 31. The headliner will be Grammy-nominated country band Midland, who hail from Dripping Springs.
The band will take the stage at 12:30 p.m. on the University of Texas at Austin's LBJ Lawn, just hours before the Longhorns kickoff against Colorado State University at 2:30 p.m. at Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Midland's first album, "On the Rocks," featured the popular song "Drinkin' Problem," which reached No. 1 on Billboard's Country Airplay Chart and is certified two times Platinum. Then, five years ago, Midland released their second album, "Let it Roll," featuring hits like "Mr. Lonely" and "Cheatin' Songs." The band's third studio album, "Barely Blue," comes out on Sept. 20.
Austin-based West 22nd to open for Midland
Midland won't be the only band playing during Saturday's Longhorn City Limits concert. At 11 a.m., indie rock band West 22nd is set to open for them.
The group is made up of four UT students, who released their debut EP last August. The band performed a showcase during South By Southwest earlier this year, and they're set to perform during the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October.
Food and beverages available at Longhorn City Limits
Longhorn City Limits is bringing back the Tito's Tailgate, with beverages like the "Still Austin Horns Up Bourbon Lemonade" available for customers 21 and older.
Alcoholic beverages will also be available at the Still Austin Music Lounge. Happy hour will offer cheaper prices on some drinks, like $5 domestic and $6.50 premium beers.
Also, for the first time, concert-goers can enjoy a meal from Pinkerton's Barbecue, a Houston-based staple known for its brisket sandwiches, turkey and more.
