John Kasich addresses 2020 rumors at SXSW

Could President Donald Trump be in for a Republican primary challenge?

AUSTIN, Texas — Could President Donald Trump be in for a Republican primary challenge?

Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, in Austin for South by Southwest (SXSW), addressed the rumor in an interview at the festival.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” said Kasich. “At some point there’s an internal clock for all of us and there are deadlines, but they’re not here yet. I’ll tell you this though, I’m not in a Hail Mary. I run when I think I can win. So we assess things just about every week, sometimes every day, and we’ll see. I’m not closing anything down, I just don’t know.”

The Republican former governor is known as a moderate and has been critical of President Trump in the past. It has been speculated that he might make a run for the White House.

“I don’t get into things where I don’t thing I can win, and right now, right now, today, inside the Republican Party, I can’t beat him in a primary,” Kasich told SXSW.

“But we’ll see. That’s today.”

Kasich ended his eight-year governorship in January.
