AUSTIN, Texas — The City of Austin and Travis County officials canceled South by Southwest (SXSW) last Friday – and since then, many badge and wristband holders have wondered if they will receive refunds.
SXSW organizers told KVUE on Tuesday that they are allowing registrants to defer for up to three years, through the 2023 festival. Additionally, they said they are working on "other ways to add value to their deferred registration" so festival-goers will be able to take advantage of a future SXSW and receive extra benefits as well.

This confirmation comes after media reports stated SXSW would be allowing badge and wristband holders to roll over to next year, despite their website clearly stating that they do not offer refunds.
After the cancellation announcement on Friday, SXSW organizers said they would try to reschedule the festival for later this year and that they are also working to provide a virtual experience for this year's SXSW EDU, which starts on March 13.
On Monday, SXSW announced it has laid off about a third of its 175 year-round employees.
