AUSTIN, Texas — The weekend is upon us and, as always, there are a ton of things going on in the Austin area! From an outdoor film screening to early Oktoberfest celebrations, there's no shortage of fun activities happening over the next few days.

Here’s a breakdown of just some of the events you can attend in this weekend.

"Black Panther" at Republic Square

The weather should be nice Friday night, so why not catch a movie outside? "Can I Kick It?," a film series designed for fans of "cult classic action films, Kung-Fu flicks and the music they inspire," will kick off with a screening of "Black Panther." Each screening in the series is scored live, scene-by-scene, by DJ 2-Tone Jones, "mixing hip-hop, rock and soul."

Ahead of Friday's film, DJ Kay Cali will be spinning tunes starting at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages, and guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food trucks will be on-site.

When: Music starts at 7 p.m. Movie starts at 8 p.m.

Where: Republic Square, located at 422 Guadalupe St.

Texas Football vs. Mississippi State

Saturday marks the Longhorns' last home game for a bit and the beginning of SEC play as they take on Mississippi State.

It's unclear at this time who will be the starting quarterback. Second-year freshman Arch Manning took over for QB 1 Quinn Ewers after Ewers suffered an injury during the game against UTSA. He started last week in the game against ULM, but whether he'll start again Saturday or if Ewers will take the field remains up in the air.

Ahead of the game, fans can see Fitz and the Tantrums for free at Longhorn City Limits.

When: Kickoff is at 3:15 p.m.

Where: Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, located at 2139 San Jacinto Blvd.

Oktoberfest celebrations

Sure, it's still September, but that isn't stopping a couple of local breweries and bars from saying "prost!" and serving up brats and beers.

Oktoberfest revelers who want to hit more than one event can stick to East Saint Elmo Road on Saturday, where both Vacancy Brewing and St. Elmo Brewing Co. will be hosting Oktoberfest celebrations from noon to 8 p.m. Vacancy's "Oktoberfest Y'all" will feature country tunes spun by DJ Boi Orbison, Okterberfest food specials from Good Vibrations Pizza Co., a märzen beer release and more. Meanwhile, St. Elmo's celebration will including polka music by Austin Polka Band, German-inspired food from Spicy Boys and Patty Place and more.

Then the Oktoberfest fun continues Sunday at Cork and Barrel Pub in Round Rock. The bar will host a festive event from 3-9 p.m., including a costume contest, live music, German beers and food specials and more.
