AUSTIN, Texas — Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is set to be immortalized in Downtown Austin.
The 55-year-old San Antonio native, known for his projects like "Spy Kids," "Sin City," and "Machete," will become the seventh person to receive a Paramount Star outside of Austin's iconic Paramount Theatre.
Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios, which is based in Austin, has premiered many of his films at the Paramount, including his most recent release, "Hypnotic." The venue also acknowledged how Rodriguez has also been vital to the booming filmmaking industry in Central Texas.
"He's also helped expertly program many films in both 2022's Panic at the Paramount and the 2023 Summer Classic Film Series," the venue said in its announcement.
Rodriguez's star will be unveiled in May in an event free and open to the public.
"What a tremendous honor to be receiving from the Paramount Theatre. I’ve had my best movie experiences there. The audience is always incredible, making movies feel like rock concerts," Rodriguez said on social media. "I am humbled by the recognition and thrilled to be so officially associated with my favorite theatre in the world in such an incredible, grand way."
Rodriguez will join Lyle Lovett, Ruthie Foster, Delbert McClinton, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jaston Williams and Joe Sears as the only people with a Paramount Star.
