Scooters banned from areas of SXSW end up in leaning tower

Some people are joking that it's an art installation for the festival.

AUSTIN, Texas — Whether you love them or hate them, it's against the rules to have scooters in parts of downtown during South by Southwest.

So when festival-goers ditched their scooters, they ended up in a pile behind a barricade.

According to our partners at the Statesman, some Alamo Drafthouse Ritz employees spotted the giant hill of discarded scooters on Saturday.

Some people are joking that it's an art installation for the festival.

The pile included scooters from several different companies that provide the dockless devices around Austin, including Bird and Lime.

It’s likely they were piled there as part of the ban on scooters in the area. Scooters have been banned from 6th Street, and police have urged festival-goers to not leave them around the outside of the barricades.
