SXSW announces 2020 free outdoor shows, featuring Selena tribute night

The three-day event will be free and open to the public and all SXSW badges.

AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: Austin and Travis County leaders announced on March 6 that SXSW has been canceled.

The South by Southwest Festival and Conference (SXSW) has announced the outdoor stage lineup for its free shows on the Ladybird Lake Stage.

Highlights include German folk duo Milky Chance, up-and-coming artist Soccer Mommy and Nashville singer-songwriter Margo Price.

The three-day event will be free and open to the public and all SXSW badges.

On Saturday, March 21, Voto Latino and Steve Madden will stage a massive tribute to the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena, called "Selena for Sanctuary." It will feature music from Carla Morrison, Victoria La Mala, Nina Diaz and a band led by Ozomatli’s Wil-Dog. Selena’s widower and former guitarist Chris Pérez will participate in the tribute jam.

Saturday’s Selena night will also include Pérez’s band, the Chris Pérez Project, as well as an appearance by local Latin-funk crew Superfónicos.

The Thursday, March 19, kickoff show lineup includes Canadian R&B artist JP Saxe and electronic-pop duo Overcoats. Local group Band of Heathens will bring their folk-rock tunes to festivalgoers on Friday, March 20.

The event gets underway at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, at Vic Mathias Shores.
