AUSTIN — This year the Austin Ice Cream Festival isn't just for the kids and the kids at heart.
For the 12th year of Austin's coolest festival, the organizers are splitting the day into two events that will cater to people of all ages with the addition of the After Dark Party.
On June 23, organizers said the festival at Fiesta Gardens, along Lady Bird Lake, will begin with a family-focused affair that won't be stingy with the scoops of ice cream and frozen treats available for attendees. The event will have dozens of vendors: Amy's Ice Creams, Bahama Freeze, Casey's New Orleans Snowballs, GoodPop, Ice Scrapers, Moojo, Odd Pop, Shaved Ice Island, Snow Monster, Swoon by H-E-B and Thai Fresh.
Festival-goers with bottomless stomachs might consider entering the ice cream eating competition or work off some extra calories on the rock climbing wall or obstacle course. Two Austin entertainment acts are set to perform during the day: The Wild Now and Melat.
The daytime event starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. Tickets go on sale May 16 and general admission starts at $15. CLICK HERE for more information.
Now -- for the night owls, the Austin Ice Cream Festival transitions into an After Dark Party at 6 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m.
Organizers said this event will feature more frozen treats, plus the addition of boozy frozen cocktails and some local food trucks.
And when you've quenched up a thirst for some live music, you'll hear from Lee Fields & The Expressions, Tameca Jones and DJ Mel.
