Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup sponsor raising money for Alzheimer's research

One Porsche will stand out this weekend at Circuit of the Americas because of the names on its side.

AUSTIN, Texas — Formula 1 isn't the only race in town this weekend. The Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup is also at Circuit of the Americas for the next three days. And there's one car that will stand out – for a good cause.

“This here is Mimi, my bride of 48 years,” Phil Frengs said of his wife.

The couple found out a decade ago that Mimi Frengs had early-onset Alzheimer’s.

Phil Frengs had sponsored racecars for years and decided the best way he could cope and help was by ripping off his company's name and bringing attention to Alzheimer’s instead. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the disease affects nearly six million people in the U.S. alone.

For $250, people can put the name of the person they're honoring on the actual race car for an entire year. Phil Frengs matches every dollar, and 100% goes to Alzheimer’s research and care.

“This is a really permanent call out for the person you love,” he explained. “You're making a public statement about them. It's really good for the soul. There's some real healing power to this whole thing.”

Your donation also gets you on a Wall of Champions, where you can post a picture and tell everyone about the person you love. And a big chunk of the donation stays right here in Texas, going to the Nantz National Alzheimer Center in Houston.
