It’s not hard to find live music venues in Austin, but it is hard to find ones with the history of Antone’s, the Broken Spoke or The Elephant Room.
Antone’s has been around for more than 40 years, and prides itself as “Austin’s Home of the Blues.” No matter the night, you’ll always find good music at Antone’s. TAP HERE for more information about Antone’s.
A few blocks from Antone’s is The Elephant Room, another great place to hear live music every night. Open since 1991, the Congress Avenue venue hosts some of the hottest jazz acts around. TAP HERE for more information.
At the Broken Spoke on South Lamar, James White has been greeting customers and providing good times for more than 50 years. White bought the land where the Broken Spoke sits when he was just 25 years old. The building is truly one of a kind, there are no blueprints for the Broken Spoke.
In the early years White didn't own a cash register and could only pay the acts he booked $35 on a Saturday night. That didn't keep people from wanting to play the Broken Spoke. White has hosted some of the biggest names in country music. From Dolly Parton, to Willie Nelson, even Garth Brooks stopped by for a visit earlier this spring.
White keeps things as authentic as possible, right down to the dirt parking lot. He still stands at the door to greet customers that come to the Broken Spoke and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon. TAP HERE for more information.
