2,500 people attend 'Cave Day' at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

This year's "Cave Day" attendance was about double last year's.

AUSTIN, Texas — Caves, critters and...virtual reality?

It was a full day of fun for families visiting the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Over 2,500 people took part in the second annual "Cave Day" -- about double last year's attendance.

Visitors were able to crawl through caves, see how water makes its way into Barton Springs, try rappelling and learn how to conserve Austin's water resources.

We asked some kids what they enjoyed most about the day.

"I saw a bat. that was my favorite part, seeing a bat...We saw some crickets and other creatures. But, we didn't see any frogs."

"My favorite part was the rope that was in there. It was to climb up to the second level."

Kids also got to try out "Cave Sim," which is kind-of like the game Operation combined with cave exploration. It teaches you about respecting caves by "buzzing" every time you come in contact with a cave wall.
