AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Animal Center (AAC) is again asking for the community's help as it says it has run out of available kennels for medium and large dogs.
The shelter posted on social media Thursday, saying it has zero available kennels for dogs of those sizes and that it "cannot go back to the inhumane care of dogs in pop-up crates."
AAC said the community can help in a couple of ways.
The first is adoption. Adoption fees are currently $0 for all shelter pets.
Another way to help is fostering. AAC said you can apply to become a new foster on its website or, if you're an approved foster already, you can come to the shelter between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and staff will match you with a foster dog. The shelter does ask that you be able to foster for a minimum of two weeks.
You can also help by sharing AAC's message so that more available adopters or fosters may see it. The shelter also asks that if you find a lost owner, try to find its owner before bringing it to the shelter.
Finally, the shelter said you can help by purchasing treats and bones from its wish list to give to the pets currently in its care.
"We know we have asked for your help in the past and you have come through for our shelter dogs," AAC wrote in the post. "Please help them again!"
AAC is located at 7201 Levander Loop.
