Artists show off their skills at Star of Texas Tattoo Art Revival

Organizers say tattoo styles are always changing, and this event is a good way to show the diversity of the art.

AUSTIN, Texas — Dozens of tattoo artists from around the nation are showing off their skills in Austin this weekend.

Doors at the Palmer Events Center opened Friday morning for the annual Star of Texas Tattoo Art Revival.

Artists displayed all types of art, from sculptures and paintings to live tattooing.

There's even an area for kids to get temporary tattoos.

Organizers say tattoo styles are always changing, and this event is a good way to show the diversity of the art.

"People are going back to traditional, but they're also going into these bold, photo-realistic tattoos," Marcy Mokenthen said. "It's always changing and expanding into different realms, and you can kind-of see it all in one place."

There is still plenty to do at the revival even if you don't want a tattoo. Sideshows in the evenings include belly dancing, burlesque, drag and comedians.

The event ends on Sunday.
