Austin Area Urban League's partnership with Austin Fashion Week supports Black designers

The Austin Area Urban League has provided 10 Black designers with scholarships ahead of Austin Fashion Week.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Fashion Week (AFW), the longest-running and largest fashion event in Texas, is celebrating 15 years and will host runway shows and pop-up shops this weekend at The Domain.

AFW has partnered with the Austin Area Urban League (AAUL) to provide scholarship dollars and support for Black designers during Austin Fashion Week. Selena Gray, director of entrepreneurship at AAUL, said there were 10 designers that AAUL provided scholarships to, with most of them being Central Texas-based.

Schedule of events:

Saturday, Nov. 11 –– Runways: Saturday (1:30 p.m.) at The Domain. The 1:30 p.m. show will honor Style Strutter Pamela Hurley with a portion of proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas. Showing brands include: Abstraction Design, AL+LU Apparel, Bailey Heyman, Cabriolle, Choix Fashion Brand, Eesa Rani Style, Espiritu Libre, Kweens Royal Tees, M. Jeanne Apparel, Stater Designs, Sunflower by Race Austyn and Yulia Fashion House.

Saturday, Nov. 11 –– Runways: Saturday (3:30 p.m.) at The Domain Presented by Austin Area Urban League. Austin Area Urban League is back providing scholarship opportunities specifically to support Black designers in Austin and beyond. The 3:30 show will honor Style Strutter Leslie Wingo with a portion of proceeds benefiting Leadership Austin. Showing brands include: Alexandria Lee Designs, Austin Ariana, Bibiane New York, Create Me Rocky, Fashion Junkie Club, Garden Art Denim, Keodisty Gooding, Luxeswim, Maivans, Misunderstood by Eddie, Sada Baltimore, Swankki, Virtuous and Young Gods.

Saturday, Nov. 11 –– STARS (8 p.m.) at The Domain. To celebrate 15 years, Austin Fashion Week is bringing fashion designers that have been featured on Bravo’s television show "Project Runway." The show will be headlined by Austinite and "Project Runway All Stars" season 20 runner-up Brittany Allen. Joining Allen on the runway are Amanda Valentine (season 11, season 13 runner-up, "All Stars" season 6), Coral Castillo (season 19 runner-up), Michelle Lesniak (season 11 winner, "All Stars" season 7 winner), Nancy Volpe-Beringer (season 18 runner-up), Fabio Costa (season 10 runner-up, "All Stars" season 20) and Korto Momolu (season 5 runner-up, "All Stars" season 3 runner-up, "All Stars" season 20).

Sunday, Nov. 12 –– Runways: Sunday (1 p.m.) at The Domain, presented by ACC Fashion Incubator. The 1 p.m. show will honor Style Strutter Rhonda Hissey with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Women’s Symphony League of Austin. The ACC Fashion Incubator is presenting five designers from current and past cohorts including: design GirlsWorld, Faire Sauvage, Lost Generation, Onyx d’Or, Rytherko and Taumeti. Additional showing brands include: Banbury Saints, Gustavia, Irma’s Bridal, Lillian Jenae Designs, Lorenza’s and Regina’s Couture.

Sunday, Nov. 12 –– Runways: Sunday (2:15 p.m.) at The Domain. The 2:15 p.m. show will honor Style Strutter Bridget Ramey with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Center for Child Protection. Showing brands include: Art by Hannah Hannah, Brown Eyed Girl Boutique, CasasRojas, Elly Abels Design, Eneri Reign Couture, Honey + Fatale, Livvie Star Company, MAIKG, Nehanda & Co. Apparel, Second Self, Sewreffic and Sheila Abigail.

Pop-up shops will be open to ticketholders and the general public during the daytime runway shows at The Domain.

All hair and makeup looks will be created by the team at Paul Mitchell: The School.
