Westworld fans got the experience of a lifetime during SXSW in 2018.
HBO hosted the “Live Without Limits Weekend” for Westworld fans by recreating the popular show’s town of "sweetwater" in the Austin-area. The second season of Westworld will premiere April 22 at 9 p.m.
Westworld was recreated from a 1970s movie about a theme park without limits.
SPOILER ALERT
Similar to the show's storyline, the event started at a downtown restaurant and bar, where fans were greeted by the “hosts" -- human-like robots dressed in all white. Each guest was assigned a white or black cowboy hat, symbolizing if they were a "good guy" or "bad guy."
Every hour, fans boarded a charter bus, which drove them more than 30 minutes outside of Austin to an undisclosed location. They departed the bus and walked through a futuristic doorway, similar to the show.
Once a door at the end of the hallway opened, guests were immediately transported back to the old west, stepping onto an old train car. Once they walked through the car, the guests entered "sweetwater."
Fans interacted with the “hosts,” played by actors dressed in 1800s old west attire and who spoke in accents.
Event-goers could also visit a western barber shop, post office and bank with an evil banker who had a dark story to tell. The saloon featured "saloon girls," a poker table and bartenders serving "Old Fashioned" drinks.
The event also provided cuisine such as baked beans, brisket, peppered sausage and what tasted like homemade beef jerky.
Finally, fans watched a showdown between the “hosts,” keeping everyone on their toes every step of the way.
