How to place an inquiry to adopt a child in Texas foster care

Here are the steps you need to take to put in an inquiry to adopt a child featured on our Forever Families segment.

AUSTIN, Texas — Every week on KVUE, we feature different children in Texas foster care who are looking for a forever family. But it can be confusing trying to figure out how to place an inquiry to adopt one of the children we feature.

First, you need to go to the story for the child that you're interested in. All of our Forever Families segments can be found on KVUE.com/ForeverFamilies. Go to the bottom of the article, to where it says, "To learn more about [this child] or to put in an inquiry to adopt them, visit their page on the Heart Gallery of Central Texas."

Once you arrive at their profile page, click "view TARE profile." You'll be taken to the Texas Adoption Resource Exchange, or TARE, website. From there, go to the left side of the page and create an account before doing anything else.

Once you've created your account, go back to the child's profile and hit "inquire on sibling group." Your inquiry will be submitted to the child's caseworker.

If you have any issues with this process, you can scroll to the top of the page and click "contact us" and scroll down. The site will give you a list of local contacts who can help you with the process.

Just take everything one step at a time. You can even reach out to KVUE's Hannah Rucker and let her know if you run into any issues. She's happy to help.

Editor's noteThe children who are in the Heart Gallery program and featured in KVUE's Forever Families segments are children who have had every effort made on their behalf to connect them with family or others in their community to provide options for permanent, adoptive homes. Through no fault of their own, that hasn’t happened yet, and so in partnership with the Department of Family and Protective Services, we collaborate to bring awareness to KVUE viewers about these children in the hopes of finding them permanency before they age out.
