AUSTIN, Texas — Every week on KVUE Daybreak, KVUE's Hannah Rucker interviews a different child in Texas foster care who is waiting for a forever family to adopt them.
Kason is 11 and is getting ready to enter into the sixth grade in the fall. He has a huge imagination and likes to stay active. His favorite hobbies include coloring, being outside, playing video and computer games, watching movies and playing with Pokémon cards.
Rucker met up with Kason at Cidercade for a day of games. He enjoyed a competitive game of air hockey and learning about guitar hero.
Kason has been in foster care for several years now and said he feels sad right now about the state of his situation. He really wants to move from his group home setting into a foster family that could become his forever family. He said he would love siblings and neighbors to play with.
"I want a mom and a dad," Kason said.
Kason also has an older sister that he would like to keep a relationship with.

KVUE launched the Forever Families segment with Partnerships for Children (PFC) in June 2020 to highlight children in the Heart Gallery of Central Texas who need secure and permanent families. Every day, there are nearly 1,000 children waiting to get adopted in Central Texas, according to PFC.

Editor's note: The children who are in the Heart Gallery program and featured in KVUE's Forever Families segments are children who have had every effort made on their behalf to connect them with family or others in their community to provide options for permanent, adoptive homes. Through no fault of their own, that hasn’t happened yet, and so in partnership with the Department of Family and Protective Services, we collaborate to bring awareness to KVUE viewers about these children in the hopes of finding them permanency before they age out.
