15-year-old Omar wants to find a family to cheer him on in basketball and in life

Omar is very athletic and is on his high school's varsity basketball team. He is also interested in marine biology and wants to go to college.

LAKEWAY, Texas — Every week on KVUE, we feature a different child in the Texas foster care system, in hopes of helping them get adopted by a forever family.

Omar is 15 years old and a sophomore in high school. He is shy and humble but thrives in an athletic environment. KVUE's Hannah Rucker met up with him at High 5 in Lakeway for some axe throwing, bowling and air hockey.

Sports come easy to Omar, and he is currently on his school's varsity basketball team. He said he wants a family to go to his games and cheer him on.

Omar said finding a forever family would be amazing after some hard years.

"That's basically a dream come true," he said. "To have a family that I can actually go home to and siblings I can play with. And if they're in sports, I can teach them things and they can teach me things."

Along with sports, Omar also has an interest in marine biology and dreams of going to college someday. But before then, he really wants a family by his side as he finishes up high school.

To learn more about Omar or to put in an inquiry to adopt him, visit his page on the Heart Gallery of Central Texas.

KVUE launched the Forever Families segment with Partnerships for Children (PFC) in June 2020 to highlight children in the Heart Gallery of Central Texas who need secure and permanent families. Every day, there are nearly 1,000 children waiting to get adopted in Central Texas, according to PFC.

Editor's noteThe children who are in the Heart Gallery program and featured in KVUE's Forever Families segments are children who have had every effort made on their behalf to connect them with family or others in their community to provide options for permanent, adoptive homes. Through no fault of their own, that hasn’t happened yet, and so in partnership with the Department of Family and Protective Services, we collaborate to bring awareness to KVUE viewers about these children in the hopes of finding them permanency before they age out.
