DENVER — McDonald's is hoping to bring back memories of doilies, warm hugs and hard candy a new dessert treat.
The new "Grandma McFlurry" was released at McDonald's restaurants nationwide on Tuesday.
The fast food chain said the new flavor is inspired by lifelong memories of grandma. The McFlurry is sweet (just like grandma) and has candy pieces (just like she had in her purse).
The dessert has a base of vanilla soft serve ice cream and is topped with butterscotch syrup and butterscotch candy crumbles.
"Grandmas have always held a special place in our hearts, and today they're having a major moment influencing culture – inspiring trends in fashion, decor and now, even food with our newest McFlurry," said Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald's. "The Grandma McFlurry tastes like a trip down memory lane, and we're excited to give our fans that experience while honoring the grandma-figure in all our lives."
The Grandma McFlurry will be available at participating McDonald's restaurants for a limited time while supplies last.
McDonald's partnered with singer-songwriter Remi Wolf and Latin Grammy Award nominee Jay Wheeler to create covers of their songs "How Sweet It Is" and "Piel Canela."
